Oh, how sweet it is—the California Honey Festival will make its return to Woodland after a successful inaugural jubilee last year (nearly 20,000 people attended the festival). Eateries like Father Paddy’s Irish Pub and Las Brasas will serve honey-themed menus in the week leading up to the big shebang on May 5, when most downtown streets will be closed to traffic for this buzzy fair highlighting regional vendors like Pure Honey and Sola Bee Farms. Taste the sweet elixir with the help of the 7-foot-wide honey wheel, catch speakers like Frank Golbeck, a maker of mead (aka honey wine), or interact with students in UC Davis’ new California Master Beekeeper program who will download you on how honey is extracted and offer samples of fresh comb honey. Kiddos can tumble on the beehive obstacle course, settle in for story time or make balloon animals.
