Pigskin Peanuts

The Santa Rosa-based Charles M. Schulz Museum brings the funnies with this traveling exhibit that displays about 50 of the cartoonist’s famous football-themed Peanuts strips, including the indelible image of mischievous Lucy pulling a football away from the long-suffering Charlie Brown just as he’s ready to kick it in the memorable piece “Fall Classic,” as well as comics featuring other favorite Peanuts characters like Snoopy, Woodstock, Peppermint Patty and Marcie playing the autumnal sport. The California Museum will kick things off with a Touchdown Party on Sept. 12, where likenesses of Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy will be mingling, and attendees can take part in activities like hand-drawing animations that will come to life by way of a zoetrope. In November and December, the museum will also provide a holiday camp, in which youngsters can spend three days at the California Museum drawing their own Peanuts cartoons and taking daily field trips to downtown locations like the ice rink on K Street.

"Pigskin Peanuts" will be on display from Sept. 12-Jan. 3. $9 admission. Tuesday through Saturday: 10 a.m - 5 p.m. Sunday: noon-5 p.m. The Holiday Camp ($150-$175) will run Nov. 23-25 & Dec. 21-23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
