Actor Tim Robbins is coming to Folsom’s Harris Center to ask audiences, “Where do you come from?” The Shawshank Redemption star is on tour with his Los Angeles-based theater company, The Actors’ Gang, and its production, The New Colossus, in which a dozen actors stage 12 true-to-life immigrant and refugee stories dating back to the 1800s: a freed slave escapes the Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War, a Malaysian child acrobat flees the 1941 Japanese invasion, a Turkish citizen tries to evade political persecution in modern-day Istanbul. After each performance of the two-day run, Robbins—who directed and co-wrote the play to shine a spotlight on U.S. immigration and refugee policies—will lead a talkback, in which he will invite audience members to share personal stories of their families’ unique paths to America.
