The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art will host this exhibit featuring more than 60 works from the time when artist Wayne Thiebaud—whose evocative, nostalgic paintings of foods like cakes, pies and hot dogs have made him one of the most celebrated living artists in the world—was part of UC Davis’ then-nascent art department and began developing his signature style. The show, curated by the artist and museum director Rachel Teagle, will feature works like 1963’s Girl with Ice Cream Cone, for which Thiebaud painted his late wife Betty Jean.
