Got Guinness? They sure do at de Vere’s, not to mention plenty of other Irish tipples on tap. But this friendly pub’s cozy booths—painstakingly chosen by the de Vere Whites, the trio of Irish brothers who own the place, to be as authentically like a true Irish pub as possible—are good for more than just nursing a pint. There is also a savory and sometimes surprisingly refined (think smoked salmon with rich Irish butter and made-in-house brown bread) menu of stick-to-your-ribs pub food, like beer-battered, tender fish and golden chips, Irish stew and shepherd’s pie, plus a hearty lineup of sandwiches, like a Reuben with house-made corn beef. And, trust us, it all goes beautifully with a glass of stout. The brothers also opened a Davis location at 217 E Street in November 2011. A lively Irish pub in a college town? Batten down the hatches, folks.
