Swiss-born Ettore Ravazzolo has been luring a stream of loyal customers through his red doors since 1985. The food here is all simple sophistication. At breakfast, patrons line up at the counter to order the house-specialty French toast, made from Ettore’s own cinnamon rolls. The Niman Ranch hamburger on a homemade cheddar scallion bun with Swiss cheese and sautéed mushrooms also has a cult following. And there’s a tasty selection of wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, salads and a small dinner menu with options including a rotisserie chicken, and pasta and seafood specials that change daily. Save room for dessert, though. The truffle cake is so rich it might require a nap when you’re done, and the red velvet cake topped with crimson rose petals is a work of art that is (almost) too beautiful to eat. But for our money, it’s the chocolate chewy cookies, soft yet crispy, that can’t be passed up.
