Attached to a gorgeous Loomis nursery that shares its name, High-Hand Conservatory would be worth a visit for its setting alone. Tables are arranged amid soaring trees and topiary under the glass roof of a huge, sun-flooded greenhouse that can be opened on nice days, offering views of the nursery grounds and their statuary, water garden and lovely plantings. Happily, the food is equal in excellence to the environs. Locally inspired fare emphasizes the fruits for which the Loomis area was once famous (High-Hand is on the site of historic fruit-packing sheds), with touches like local mandarins on the challah French toast at brunch or house-made apple pie for dessert. Lunch and dinner include a seasonally changing array of dishes like wood-oven pizzas (cooked within view in the outdoor oven), salads, tri-tip sandwiches and more. Don’t miss the homemade potato chips.
