Spicy food may set your mouth ablaze, but the kitchen at the Sacramento branch of Kathmandu Kitchen literally caught fire in summer, 2005. Re-opened since March 2006, this outpost of delicious Nepali and Indian cuisine still serves mouthwatering meals, from flaky vegetable samosas to creamy chicken, lamb, prawn or vegetable korma (a cashew-based, nutmeg-spiced curry sauce). Plentiful vegetarian options include baigan bharta (roasted eggplant curry with bell pepper and spices) and vegetable chau chau, a Tibetan fried noodle dish. To dine like a true Nepalian (or retro American), forgo the a la carte menu and order your entree thali: you’ll get a TV dinner-style tray with separate compartments for the entrée, rice, lentils, vegetable curry, chutney and naan. If everything sounds good, check out the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for $9.99.
