Mark and Karoline Platt, the owners of Sienna in El Dorado Hills, have edged down the hill to Folsom for their new venture, Land Ocean New American Grill—a swank-casual steakhouse that references surf and turf in its menu and name. The atmosphere is dim and stylish with a modern twist: The building is striped with dark wood shutters and a blond slatted ceiling, outfitted with cushy leather booths, and punctuated by a dramatically mod bubble light fixture over the bar. The fare, too, is updated traditional: From the land come the aged steaks (grilled at 1,700 degrees), augmented with other carnivore-pleasing choices like tender, wood-fired rotisserie chicken with smashed red potatoes, and, at lunch, prime rib French dip sandwiches. The ocean yields catches like macadamia nut-encrusted sea bass with coconut rice, cedar-plank salmon, tempura tiger prawns, and an ever-changing fresh fish of the day.
