Midtown's Cantina Alley

  • Mexican

Essential Information

2320 Jazz Alley
Sacramento, CA 95816

Wanting to recreate the vibe of the vibrant Mexican street culture, Art Aguilar and Max Archuleta launched this open-air eatery and watering hole in March 2017. Nestled in an alleyway (as the name suggests), Midtown’s Cantina Alley sets the south-of-the-border scene with salsa music and large sliding wooden doors (made in Oaxaca) that open to reveal a covered patio. The cantina feel is further enhanced by a small menu of authentic eats, like tacos with beer-battered red snapper on handmade tortillas; the traditional elote (corn on the cob dressed in crema, spicy chile and lime); and the pambazo, a panini-like flavor-and-texture bomb stuffed with potatoes, fiery longaniza sausage and tomatillo salsa. Wash it all down with La Sandia, a refreshing blend of watermelon purée, tequila and Tajín served in a hollowed-out watermelon, knowing you’ve found the ultimate staycation spot that whisks you away to another world.
