Tucked away in an unassuming locale on H Street, Moxie provides high-end dining with plenty of old-school appeal. Intimate tables with mood lighting (it’s easily one of the darkest rooms in the city), black and white prints of New York and Chicago skylines and stills of Frank, Sammy and Marilyn complete the romance. Don’t let the brief menu, with its half-dozen entrees like jambalaya, chicken Parmesan and liver and onions, fool you. The restaurant offers more than a dozen specials nightly, such as rib eye, sea bass, lamb and ahi, which bring patrons back for more. The real gems are proprietors Adam Chaccour and Bill Curren, who do nothing short of make diners feel like every little thing is prepared especially for them. Their motto? “At Moxie, you get what you want. If it’s in the building (or close by), we will prepare it.”
