Essential Information

1930 H St.
Sacramento, CA 95811

It’s not unusual to find patrons – dying for a fix of French ground steak burger with cheese – waiting for Nationwide to open. It’s probably been that way ever since the Gonzales family started making little sample sandwiches in the once full-service butcher shop decades ago. Though the butcher operations are gone, the restaurant continues to cut and grind all the meat by hand. While the no-nonsense ambience has plenty of appeal – little blue booths and splashes or Marilyn and Elvis – patrons are there to eat their French burgers. (The French denotes the soft French roll on which 1/3-pound patties are served.) A single with cheese runs $7, which makes the quadruple a bargain at almost $16. The wedge fries are the epitome of potato bliss, while the $4 shakes may be the thickest in town.
