With all the shiny new restaurants that have opened lately, it’s easy to forget the stalwarts—the original hot spots. And the original Paragary’s ranks right up at the top of that list. The place that brought wood-fired pizza to Sacramento long before Wolfgang Puck was a household name remains one of the city’s top pizza purveyors, with crispy thin-crust dough and inventive (and delicious) combinations like prosciutto, caramelized onion and mushroom, or chicken with sage pesto, sliced potatoes and mozzarella. But its seasonal menu extends far beyond pizza to pastas, steak and seafood. Tip: The outdoor dining patio is one of the best al fresco spots in the city with its fireplace, decorative waterfalls and lush greenery.
