You don’t have to be a Kings or River Cats fan to fit in at this new sports palace in Old Sacramento—whichever team you root for is likely represented among the massive memorabilia collection here. But even if you’re strictly a softballer, you’ll dig SacTown’s elevated bar food by chef Cory Lazaldi (formerly of Cibo 7, Broderick Midtown and Capital Dime). Take the Brown Butter Burger: To the naked eye, it’s an ordinary bacon cheeseburger, but Lazaldi has secretly weaponized it by planting a taste-bud-pleasing butter bomb at its core. Or try the dry-rubbed sriracha ginger wings (one of 16 variations) or the scratch-made, brined and air-dried fries, which you can get loaded with garlic and Parmesan or bacon and beer cheese. Pair them with a local brew or craft cocktail on tap, such as the quaffable Effen Cucumber Linden or the Maker’s 46 Old Fashioned, and you might just forget all about the Kings’ latest loss.
