Housed inside one of the city’s most prominent landmarks, Tower Cafe lives up to its location. On the outside is the Tower Theatre’s neon spire, along with a verdant, palm tree-topped outdoor dining area. Inside is a virtual museum of Asian and African tapestries, sculptures and assorted artwork. The equally eclectic menu spans the globe as well, from the popular Jamaican jerk chicken to the Santa Fe salmon with a yellow pepper and mango sauce. But perhaps the most fuss is made over brunch, where the fabled French toast rules. Tower takes sweet French bread, soaks it overnight in vanilla custard, and then cooks it up so it’s hot and crunchy on the outside, sweet and impossibly moist on the inside: manna from heaven. But the carnitas con huevos—tender pulled pork with fluffy scrambled eggs and soft flour tortillas—gives any dish a run for its money. Tower also boasts one of the best dessert counters in the city.
