'Project Runway' stars to present their new spring collections in Sacramento

Local fashion designer Richard Hallmarq and four of his fellow Project Runway alums get set to rule the runway in Sacramento on Sunday, March 1, at “House: A Fashion Experience.” The chic showcase, which will be held at downtown’s The Park Ultra Lounge and feature a runway show and pop-up boutique, will highlight the spring 2015 lines from Hallmarq, Melissa Fleis, Daniel Esquivel, Emily Payne and Samantha Black, all of whom starred in the Heidi Klum-hosted reality television series. Ana Apple set to open a children’s clothing store in Old Sacramento

Ana Manzano, owner and operator of Ana Apple, the handmade, eco-friendly children’s clothing company, is opening her first shop in Old Sacramento, with an anticipated opening in the first week of March. Last year, Manzano, 30, won the second annual Downtown Sacramento Partnership “Calling All Dreamers” contest, designed to help start-ups open their first storefronts. Ana Apple was selected from a pool of 33 contestants and won the grand prize valued at $135,000 and a year of free rent. (The inaugural “Dreamer” winner was Andy Paul, who has since opened Andy’s Candy Apothecary near 9th and J streets. The 2015 contest launches today.) It's all Good as food and design market reopens on Del Paso Blvd.

Now in its third season, the Good Street Food + Design Market returns this Sunday with an expanded array of chic regional designers and tempting food vendors. Organized by the Del Paso Boulevard Partnership and the events group Unseen Heroes (run by the husband-and-wife team of Roshaun and Maritza Davis), the market will once again take place in the warehouse space owned by Limn furniture founder Dan Friedlander, where on the first Sunday of every month through December, the event will offer a carefully curated merchant lineup that celebrates the quality and diversity of the region’s culinary and design scenes.
