Sacramento Country Day School
Sacramento Country Day School is the region’s #1 private school and the only independent, coeducational Pre-K through 12 school in the Sacramento area. Students are known as individuals and supported through an enriched academic program that helps them grow into their full potential. The Physical Education Department is led by Jason Kreps and aided by Latonia Pitts, Jason Allen and Angela Cormier. Together they foster fitness, confidence, resilience and lifelong wellness.
How does physical education support a student’s overall growth?
Physical education at Country Day extends far beyond physical fitness. Through age-appropriate games, sports and movement experiences, students develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, perseverance, responsibility and respect for others. P.E. also supports mental and emotional wellbeing by building confidence, self-discipline and resilience.
How does the physical education experience look different at Country Day?
One of the greatest strengths of Country Day’s program is continuity. Teachers work with students for many years, developing a deep understanding of each child’s unique needs. Combined with strong collaboration across grade levels, this allows teachers to provide personalized support throughout a student’s journey. While many schools have eliminated P.E., our Pre-K through 12th grade program provides a thoughtfully designed progression of movement, fitness, sport and personal development. Lower School students begin by developing fundamental movement skills, coordination and skill development. Middle School students learn strategy and game concepts to build teamwork and healthy peer interactions. High School students apply these skills in advanced sport and fitness experiences while developing personal responsibility and goal-setting skills.
What do you hope students carry with them long after they leave your class?
Our goal is for students to leave with lifelong healthy habits, fitness literacy, physical confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, and an appreciation for physical activity as an important part of a balanced and rewarding life.
