Auburn has always been known for its Gold Rush charm, but diners hungry for something modern have been flocking to Tap & Vine, a New American eatery with concrete floors, sleek black booths and an expansive patio, since it opened there in 2017. Owners Addison and Kaitlyn Brown collaborated with chef Darren Thompson, an Auburn native, to create an appealing menu featuring dishes like the crunchy-creamy deep-fried avocado tacos and the “big kid” grilled cheese, made with raclette and Midnight Moon cheeses sandwiched between slices of a sourdough batard. The restaurant also boasts a solid lineup of wine and craft beer (hence its name), and even brews its own pale ale and IPA.
