Toasted
Essential Information
Avocado toast, the unofficial entrée of urban millennials everywhere, and its sister incarnations take center stage at Toasted, which opened in April near Capitol Park and elevates the trendalicious concept by providing near-infinite menu variations. This pocket-size, counter-service-only joint is owned by Nubia Murillo (who also owns Cap City Squeeze Juice Bar next door) and offers seasonal options like the Greek Avo, where the bite of fresh cucumber and kalamata olives contrasts with a thick sourdough slathered with avocado, or the sweet-salty Pear-fect Date with slivers of fresh pear over almond butter, laden with gorgonzola and honey supported by a dense, whole-grain slice. Or build your own, selecting from ingredients like sriracha, pesto, almonds, ricotta, prosciutto, poached egg and shocking magenta beet hummus (a recent special), piled high on tranches of sturdy, succulent bread from Bella Bru Baking Company (each toast comes with a small mixed green salad). The iced teas—sourced from Tea Cozy on R Street and flavored with real fruit, herbs and spices are alone worth stopping in for.
