April 5 A popular local tradition for 15 years, this near-annual musical comedy show fronted by funnyman Jack Gallagher returns to The Sofia. Expect the veteran comedian to once again perform stand-up and lead the Dick Bright Band, which will perform covers of rock throwbacks like “A Beautiful Morning” by The Rascals. bstreettheatre.org
Preservation Hall Jazz Band
April 9 True to its name, this New Orleans ensemble has been safeguarding the traditional sound of Big Easy jazz for over 60 years. Returning to Folsom’s Harris Center in April after last year’s brass-filled blast, the band is set to play a mix of classics like “When the Saints Go Marching In” and original songs like “Keep Your Head Up.” harriscenter.net
DakhaBrakha
April 9 The Guardian recently deemed this Kyiv-based Ukrainian quartet “one of the most sonically inventive contemporary groups in any genre.” DakhaBrakha’s self-described “ethno chaos,” which blends traditional folk with everything from punk to hip-hop to trance music, heads to Davis’ Mondavi Center in April. mondaviarts.org

Everything Beautiful Happens At Night
March 19-April 20 In this new comedy set in 1980s New York, a closeted children’s writer argues with his also-closeted editor to have his male characters Chipmunk and Squirrel hold hands. Penned by Ted Malawer—a children’s book author turned screenwriter who co-wrote the hit rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue—the play makes its world premiere at Capital Stage. capstage.org
Barefoot in the Park
April 11-27 Opposites attract, but will they lead to marital bliss? Celebration Arts’ artistic director, James Ellison III, explores that question as he helms a production of this 1963 Neil Simon romantic comedy, in which a newly-wed couple navigates the early days of their marriage. celebrationarts.net

The Prom
April 18-May 3 “A clash-of-cultures hoot that earns a big Broadway corsage,” raved Variety about this stage comedy, which tells the story of four Broadway stars who descend on an Indiana town to rally behind a gay teen who was prohibited from bringing her girlfriend to the prom.
