Set to open in Mansion Flats on Aug. 2, Goodside Coffee will feature a rotating selection from roasters from across the country each season with its “Roaster in Residence” program. First up will be Santa Cruz-based Cat & Cloud Coffee, whose “The Answer” blend with notes of caramel, berries and chocolate will be spotlighted. Two years after launching Morgan’s Mill in Woodland, owner James Morgan is bringing the popular coffee shop to downtown Sacramento. Slated to open by late September near 11th and K, the new 1,800-square-foot spot will focus on local drinks (think java from Citrus Heights-based Entimos Coffee Roasters or vino from Yolo County-based Matchbook Wine Company), which patrons can pair with a menu of grab-and-go bites like the Hardy Boi avocado toast (topped with bacon and clover sprouts) or signature house-made waffles, including a cinnamon roll waffle and pizza waffle (with garlic butter, basil marinade and cherry tomatoes). 1026 K St. morgansmill.co

Insomnia Cookies, the Philadelphia-based late-night cookie chain that arrived in Davis last year, is set to expand its regional footprint by opening in Downtown Commons later this year. Jeune​, which debuted at the Ice Blocks in June, will be holding its last round of pours at the midtown complex from this Thursday, Aug. 1, through Sunday, Aug. 4. The pop-up wine bar—owned by Wool Design mavens Emily Wilder and Kaila Niles (the interior designers behind Canon and Camellia Coffee Roasters) focuses exclusively on all-organic, chemical-additive-free natural wines, including those from the likes of Clarksburg’s Tendu and El Dorado County’s Gros Ventre Cellars. This Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., the bar will feature a vintner meet-and-greet with Hank Beckmeyer, who co-owns the regional winery La Clarine Farm with his wife, Caroline Hoel. After they close up shop, Wilder and Niles will continue to lend their expertise to a curated wine list at nearby Beast & Bounty, owned by Michael Hargis, who is a partner in Jeune.
