A Life Aquatic
By Max Whittaker
“This is what fishing from the shore looks like in the Delta. It’s not an idyllic beach that you’re casting from. But these guys are out having a great time.”
It's the time of year when Sacramentans appreciate the Delta the most; not for its beauty or bounty, but for its celebrated breeze that salves the summer heat. The reality, though, is that many of us hardly know it. Over the last three years, photojournalist Max Whittaker has chronicled life on and around the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, tracking down the boaters and billionaires, the partiers and the protestors, and the scientists and swimmers who occupy this watery labyrinth that sustains our crops and bursts with its own vibrant ecosystem.
Come on in. The water's fine.
