Rob Turner

Rob was born and raised in Sacramento, and has 15 years of editorial experience at both local and national publications. He started out as the entertainment editor and pop music critic at the Sacramento News & Review. Then, in 1995, he moved to New York, where he worked as a staff writer for SmartMoney and Money magazines. In 2000, he became a full-time freelance writer and has since written articles for New York magazine, The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, Boston Magazine, Metropolis, I.D., Surface, Fortune, Fortune Small Business, Inc. magazine, Life, U.S. News & World Report, and The Wall Street Journal. In 2003, he served as a freelance associate editor at Entertainment Weekly. He has also held internships with Sacramento Business magazine (a now-defunct Chamber of Commerce publication), Tower Records’ Pulse! magazine, and Harper’s Magazine. In 2004, Rob moved back to Sacramento with his wife Elyssa.

Rob graduated from the University of California at Davis (’90), where he majored in English. He has studied magazine publishing at New York University and The New School in New York City. He also attended the 2004 Stanford Professional Publishing Course.

Elyssa Lee

Elyssa is a native of Seoul, South Korea, and is currently a contributing writer for InStyle magazine, where she spent five years in New York City as a staff writer interviewing the biggest names in entertainment (including Jennifer Lopez, Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary J. Blige, Derek Jeter and Alicia Keys) and covering events like the MTV Video Music Awards, Grammys, Tonys, The Sundance Film Festival and New York Fashion Week. She also covered many of Hollywood’s glitziest charity bashes benefiting the likes of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and Katie Couric’s Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance. Prior to working at InStyle, she was a staff reporter for Money magazine. She has also freelanced for Entertainment Weekly Online, Yahoo! Internet Life magazine, Inc. magazine, the Boston Phoenix’s Stuff@Night magazine and Boston’s South End News. While in graduate school, she was the Entertainment Editor for Boston’s INsite magazine.

Elyssa holds both English and Psychology degrees, as well as a Masters in Journalism, from Boston University (’97). She joined Rob in attending the 2004 Stanford Professional Publishing Course.

Jason Malmberg

Art Director

After studying fine art at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago (alums include Georgia O’Keefe and Walt Disney), at the tender age of 23, Jason rose through the ranks to become art director of The Reader, the alternative weekly in his hometown of Omaha. While there, he was responsible for redesigning the 90-page publication. In 1999, he was named art director of the Sacramento News & Review, where he won an AAN (Association of Alternative Newsweeklies) award for cover design. Most recently, as art director of MGW, Sacramento’s alternative lifestyle publication, Jason transformed the bimonthly newspaper to a glossy regional magazine. His freelance clients have included HarperCollins and Urban Outfitters. In his spare time, he designs concert posters for such luminaries as the Black Eyed Peas, Mos Def and Violent Femmes.
