Put your best face forward at the Northern California Beard and Moustache Competition

Get ready to grow your goatees and style your ’staches for a good cause at the fourth annual Northern California Beard and Moustache Competition, which will roll into Old Sacramento on March 28.
Hosted by the local Moustache and Beard Social Club, the event will bring together competitors who will face off in 15 categories of facial hair prowess, including best sideburns, business beard or “uber-stache.” A women’s “Whiskerina” division for the most creative fake beard also allows ladies to get in on the action.
“This event is fun for everyone—hairy or not,” says organizer Ryan Scalise, adding that competitors usually dress up in everything from swimming trunks to historical costumes. The judging panel includes Paul Beisser, who won “Best Natural Goatee” at the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships in Alaska.
Win or lose, you’ll want to stick around for the after-party to taste beer from Lagunitas Brewing Company and Pabst Blue Ribbon and nosh on barbecue from local food truck Gameday Grill. Plus, enter the raffle that will raise funds for the event’s beneficiary, Woodland-based Pet Adoption and Wellness Services (PAWS).
$25 for competitors, $15 for spectators. $8 for kids 10 and under. 5-10 p.m. California State Railroad Museum. 125 I St. 445-7387. eventbrite.com
