Can hearing loss be reversed?

It depends on what’s causing it. Some types of hearing loss—such as a buildup of earwax, certain infections or fluid behind the eardrum—can often be treated medically. However, the most common type, age-related hearing loss, occurs when delicate cells inside the inner ear become damaged. Unfortunately, those cells don’t regenerate. The good news is that today’s hearing technology can dramatically improve communication and quality of life. The first step is identifying the cause with a comprehensive hearing evaluation rather than assuming hearing loss is simply part of aging.

How do I know if I need hearing aids or just need my ears cleaned?

Many people assume their ears are plugged with wax when they’re actually experiencing hearing loss. Others believe they need hearing aids when the issue is something much simpler. If I need hearing aids, do I have to buy them right away?
