A spring bazaar invites locals to Shop 'n' Stroll

On March 21, retail stores on 21st Street between 1st Avenue and X Street will open their doors and share the sidewalk with 36 local artisans and vendors for Shop 'n’ Stroll—a full-day bazaar for goods galore.
Starting at 10 a.m., visitors can browse jewelry, shoes, handbags and other wares from local and out-of-town vendors alike. Sacramento will be represented both by stores along the route (including vintage outlets like The Antique Company, Fringe, and This ‘n’ That Thrift and Gift, whose proprietor Lynda Tyler founded the event) and vendors like AmberLilies Fashion (who will sell her handsome artisanal aprons), Two Flew the Coop (which makes swanky shelters for urbanite fowl), or Z to Z Creations (which creates functional artistic pieces out of such materials as repurposed wood and salvaged junk).
Bigger brands like the accessory-and-party purveyor Paparazzi, Solemates Sandals and Thirty-One will be on hand as well.
In addition to being able to visit more than 30 “shops,” attendees will also get the chance to take home a raffle prize if he or she purchases from one of the vendors: The grand prize raffle winner will receive a 90-minute relaxation session at The Body Café, a massage cooperative on 21st Street.
For Tyler, the raffle, the vendors and the merchants provide a win-win-win situation: Inviting vendors to the event brings business into 21st Street’s brick-and-mortar establishments, and the vendors are on the receiving end of foot traffic traveling to her spot and others on the strip. “It’s unusual for a retail or thrift store to align themselves with artisans and vendors," she says. "But we have a relationship.”
