Show mom why she's the bomb at this year's Roseville Berryfest.

From tea parties to a fruity festival and an outdoor tour that’s not so garden-variety, we’ve rounded up six fun ways to make this Mother’s Day all about you-know-who.

Junior Kings Mother’s Day Clinic

May 13 Your mom, aunt or grandma will be treated like an all-star at this Junior Kings basketball clinic, where the whole family can learn how to handle a basketball like a pro. Trainers will be on hand to teach the basics of the game, essential skills like passing, shooting and dribbling and how to work as a team, and participants can get insider tips from former members of the Sacramento Monarchs like Olympic gold medalist and hometown hero “Mighty Ruthie” Bolton. The event is BYOB (in this case, “bring your own basketball”) but attendees get to take home a Sacramento Kings T-shirt and special participation certificate. $75-$175. 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Sacramento Kings Practice Facility. 1 Sports Pkwy. eventbrite.com

Love My Mom 5K

May 13 If your ma is a speed demon, tell her to lace up her tennis shoes and head to the Palladio in Folsom, where this third annual 5K and kids’ half-mile fun run will fill the streets. The course starts at Whole Foods Market, winds through the shopping center and Kaiser Permanente lots, and ends back at the grocery store, which will provide post-race goodies like muffins, pastries, granola bars, and fresh and dried fruit. Racers can wind down with a guided stretch from Serenity Spa & Soul Yoga, or shake out their muscles to DJ’d tunes. Tell mom to keep her racing bib or finishers’ medal: The Palladio’s shops like Charming Charlie, Button Up Boutique and Pretty Sweet Bakery will have special discounts all weekend long for the supermoms who raced. $35 ($25 for ages 10 and under for 5K; $15 for kids fun run). Kids fun run starts at 8 a.m. 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. Whole Foods Market. 410 Palladio Pkwy. Folsom. 355-7825. facebook.com/folsomparksandrec

Roseville Berryfest

May 13-14 Mom will be berry happy you brought her to this weekend fête celebrating Placer County’s bountiful harvest of berries. Not only can she head to the beer garden for strawberry margaritas and strawberry beer, but she can also indulge in treats like blueberry beignets, strawberry flan and raspberry tarts. Steer her toward the main stage where Mom of the Year will be crowned based on pre-submitted video essays by loving young ones. The festival will also feature its yearly strawberry-shortcake-eating contest and Little Miss Strawberry Pageant, as well as two stages with acts like a Beatles tribute band. $10. ($5 for ages 6-12; free for ages 5 and under). 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Placer County Fairgrounds. 800 All America City Blvd. Roseville. 787-0101. feedmeberries.com

Mother’s Day Tea

May 13-14 At A Dash of Panache, a Parisian-themed teahouse in Roseville, you and your mère can experience a little joie de vivre at the 13th annual Mother’s Day high tea. Choose from over 50 tea varieties—like Bourbon Street Vanilla rooibos or a bubble gum flavored tea for kiddies—and nibble on freshly baked scones, which may include flavors like wild blueberry and banana-walnut, as well as ladylike finger sandwiches that are displayed on classic three-tiered stands. If you forget your feather boa, don’t worry: you can rummage in the shop’s vanity closet for the perfect combo of jewels, feathers and glistening headwear, and take photos in front of a twinkling 14-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower or a wall mural featuring the likeness of a Paris cafe. $29.95 ($24.95 for ages 12 and under). Sat. 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. Sun. 2 & 5 p.m. A Dash of Panache. 217 Vernon St. Roseville. 788-4386. adashofpanache.com

Capay Valley Mother’s Day Garden Tour

May 14 Instead of buying mom the standard-issue plastic-wrapped bouquet, let her while away the hours conferrin’ with the flowers in Capay Valley, where the towns of Esparto, Rumsey, Capay, Guinda and Brooks will host a self-guided tour of nine home gardens and small and large farms, including Leap Frog Farm, Full Belly Farm and Cache Creek Lavender, where spring blooms like snapdragons, sunflowers, bachelor buttons and godetias will abound. If relaxation is your mom’s thing, lounge at any one of the gardens’ picnic spots for as long as you like, or, for the more active matriarch, partake in scheduled workshops and learn to make rose-petal-infused ice cream or craft freshly picked flora into a table-worthy arrangement. $10 (free for ages 12 and under; $10 extra for workshops). 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Capay Valley. Tickets and maps can be picked up at Esparto Park. 17001 Yolo Ave. Esparto. thecapayvalleygardentour.com

Mother’s Day Formal Tea

May 14 Don your pearls and gloves for this third annual formal tea (slightly less proper than high tea) hosted by Nautilus Tea Company in Fair Oaks. Genteel ladies can choose from the shop’s 80 teas—owners Tonja and Mike Tallent recommend a food-friendly black tea like Earl grey or English breakfast, but let your taste buds be your guide. Try flavors like Jungle Monkey (rooibos tea with coconut, banana and chai) and Fragrant Dragon (a passion-fruit-and-pomegranate-infused green tea) and sit down to a white-linen-laid table spread with an array of vanilla bean and red berry scones served with traditional Devonshire clotted cream and lemon curd, as well as dainty finger sandwiches filled with rosemary chicken salad or cucumber and radish. Save room for the colorful fruit tart, festively dusted with edible glitter. $25. 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. Nautilus Tea Company. 11771 Fair Oaks Blvd. Fair Oaks. 542-1832. nautilustea.com
