River City Brewing Company remains closed after a small kitchen fire Thursday morning.

A small fire at River City Brewing Company on Thursday morning set off sprinklers that soaked the inside of the restaurant, prompting its closure as well as that of a neighboring Downtown Plaza eatery.

A representative for Downtown Plaza says nobody was hurt in the incident.

The fire started shortly after 11 a.m. in the kitchen’s pizza oven, according to River City staff. The flames sent plumes of smoke through a vent above Johnny Rockets on the second floor of Downtown Plaza, causing employees and patrons to evacuate the popular ’50s-themed diner as well.

Sacramento Fire Department crews arrived at the plaza’s western entry within minutes, tending to the scene from the ground floor and the roof.

Johnny Rockets, which sustained no damage from the fire or smoke, reopened Thursday afternoon after a brief closure. River City Brewing Company remains closed until Friday at the earliest pending a city safety inspection, according to staff.
