Kings treat fans at downtown arena construction site

Since demolition began at the site of downtown's forthcoming Entertainment and Sports Complex, the sidewalk across the street has been populated by a steady stream of onlookers, taking pictures or simply gazing upon the daily progress. And today, in the first of a series of surprise giveaways, the Sacramento Kings decided to reward the gathering of Kings fans, lunchtime observers and lucky passers-by with an array of goodies.
Kings mascot Slamson, a small crew of Kings Dancers and other staff distributed brownies from midtown's Rick's Dessert Diner along with Kings t-shirts, sunglasses and foam koozies to a group congregated at the corner of 6th and L streets. The brief gathering took place just across the road from where demolition crews continue to clear the eastern section of Downtown Plaza—the future site of the ESC.
A representative says the Kings will continue the giveaways on a roughly six- to eight-week basis, handing out more Kings merchandise as well as provisions from local merchants like Rick's. Fans interested in taking part can keep an eye on Kings social media and the ESC website for more details.
