LowBrau
Essential Information
LowBrau, a vibrant beer and sausage joint at the corner of 20th and K, has a mod, cheeky edge and refuses to take itself too seriously (its tagline is “King of ze Wurst”). Happily, it’s more serious about its hearty Teutonic food and the alluring beer and cocktail list. The menu revolves around sausages like the juicy bratwurst and the spicy lamb (which are made at neighboring Block Butcher Bar), not to mention two vegan sausage choices. Extras like golden duck fat fries (vegetarians are out of luck there) and pretzels with bier cheese round out the eats. And for drinks? An extensive, Germanic-leaning beer list featuring Belgian sours and saisons (for the truly lowbrow, there’s always the $3 Pabst) keeps hop heads happy; you’ll also find creative cocktails based on beer or other libations like the Lavender Heights, with Gordon’s London Dry Gin, lemon juice, house-made tonic, honey and lavender tincture. No wonder the communal tables always seem packed.
