Petra Greek
Essential Information
Petra makes the most of a narrow but attractive space, clad in blonde stone (the name Petra means “rock” in Greek) in the Firestone Building, bringing the fresh sensibility of Greek street food to downtown Sacramento in dishes both familiar (gyros, souvlaki, ultra-creamy tzatziki) and not so well known, like grilled haloumi (a deliciously salty Cypriot cheese that’s firm enough to grill) or loukaniko, a juicy and savory red Greek sausage, sizzling from the grill. A roundup of dips and sides, such as hummus or spanakopita served in Olympian portions, and plenty of big, fresh salads round out the selections, which are as well suited to a late-night nosh as to a quick and fresh lunch stop. There are also some tasty Greek wines and plenty of frosty beers, plus desserts like the Greek yogurt with honey and house-made chocolate baklava.
