Get ready to don your lederhosen and hoist a cold one in celebration of beer at these four regional Oktoberfest events.
Oktoberfest at Sacramento Turn Verein
Oct. 7-8 Sacramento Turn Verein in East Sacramento is hosting its 49th annual celebration. Sip authentic German beers like Weihenstephaner, which is made in a hilltop abbey in Bavaria that was established by Benedictine monks in 1040 and is known as the oldest continually operating brewery in the world. Nosh on sausages and chicken sandwiches and do a polka on the dance floor to the tunes of the Gruber Family Band, who will be playing German music both nights. $20 ($5 for children 6-12; free for under 6). 6 p.m.-12 a.m. on Fri. & 3 p.m.–11 p.m. on Sat. Land Parktoberfest
Oct. 15 Sample local craft beers and wines at this inaugural event, including special offerings from New Helvetia, Hoppy Brewing, Ruhstaller and Track 7. Musical performances by Sacramento rock ’n’ roll group Oh! The Band will pump up party-goers as they chow down on Oktoberfest fare like bratwurst, charcuterie and Bavarian pretzels. Auburn Oktoberfest
Oct. 21 An authentic German feast of pork chops, sausage and potatoes will be the centerpiece of this Oktoberfest party, hosted by the Auburn Gold Country Rotary. Sample German beer and wine and clap along as Alpentänzer Schuhplattler, a Bavarian folk troupe established in Sacramento in the early ’70s, performs traditional music and demonstrates jigs on the dance floor. Roseville Oktoberfest
Oct. 22 The Vernon Street Town Square in Roseville will transform into Little Bavaria as the Roseville Oktoberfest kicks off with a tasting event showcasing beers and ciders from 15 regional breweries, including Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada and Crispin Cider. Sample food from The Monk’s Cellar and Cowabunga BBQ, who will both be preparing Oktoberfest favorites like pretzels, bratwurst sandwiches and Brunswick stew.
