Sacramento Republic FC to host April 26 home opener

Get ready to have a ball, Sacramento: Your Republic FC soccer team will play its inaugural home match on April 26, taking on the Harrisburg City Islanders at the Cal Expo sports stadium.

The USL PRO league announced its complete 2014 schedule this morning, including 28 games for Sacramento's new soccer team against rivals from Los Angeles to Orlando. The regular season commences for the Republic on March 29 when the squad travels south to take on the LA Galaxy II at StubHub Center. Four road games follow before the Republic returns to the capital for its first home opener against Harrisburg.

Led by its coach (and MLS Hall of Famer) Preki, the Republic will play seven of its final 10 games at home, concluding with the season finale Sept. 6 at Cal Expo against the Galaxy II. Other season highlights include a Fourth of July match at home against the Los Angeles Blues and a duel between the Republic and the OKC Energy–another of the USL PRO's 2014 expansion teams–at Cal Expo on Aug. 9.
