Six big ways for little ones to celebrate Halloween

Young ghouls and goblins, princesses and pirates can get into the Halloween spirit this season with festival games, pumpkin bowling and, of course, candy galore at these six costume parties around town.

Night of 1,000 Pumpkins

Oct. 23 Kids can trick-or-treat along the streets of Historic Folsom, which will be illuminated by 1,000 glowing jack-o’-lanterns. Also on hand will be a pop-up dance performance by Cynthia’s Dance Studio, a costume parade and contest, and an outdoor screening of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Safe and Super Halloween

Oct. 23-25 A treasure chest of treats awaits at Fairytale Town’s pirate-themed Halloween hoopla. Wee Halloween

Oct. 28 Costumed tots ages 5 and under can decorate treat bags, then get them filled with small gifts as they tour the Crocker Art Museum. Boo at the Zoo

Oct. 30-31 With 25 candy stations, a haunted carousel and a spooky train ride, the Sacramento Zoo is chock-full of eerie fun for young ghosts and ghouls, who can also dance to DJed songs, catch a magic show or try their hand at pumpkin bowling. $12 ($8-$10 until Oct. 28). 4-8 p.m. Sacramento Zoo. 3930 West Land Park Dr. 808-5888. saczoo.org

Midtown Halloween Festival

Oct. 31 This Fido-friendly fair will feature a pet costume contest and parade. Halloween activities for two-legged attendees will include decorating pumpkins and making treat bags. Free. 3-6 p.m. Marshall Park. 27th and J Streets. exploremidtown.org

Treat Trail

Oct. 31 Downtown Davis businesses will spoil trick-or-treaters with sweets during this annual Halloween event, and the Varsity Theatre will host free screenings of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Free. 2-4:30 p.m. Downtown Davis. 530-756-8763. davisdowntown.com
