Taste: The region's latest food, drink & restaurant news for July 15

This week we've got the lowdown on two fun foodie events, a beer-meets-yoga session, the scoop on a new health food bar opening in midtown and Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op's big move.
Beer and Yogis
Fancy a little lager might improve your lotus pose? This event brings the craft beer and yoga industries together for an evening of suds and stretching at Yolo Brewing Company on July 21. New York-based yoga instructors Mikki Trowbridge and Melissa Klimo-Major created Beer and Yogis to marry their twin obsessions, craft beer and yoga. They're stopping in Sacramento on a nationwide tour that began June 29 in Ohio and has since made its way across the country, promoting the benefits of yoga by holding classes—followed by tastings—at local craft breweries. Yogis of all skill levels can bring their yoga mats for a 60-minute vinyasa flow yoga session, which will be followed by tastings of Yolo Brewing’s beers, including the Orange Blossom Blonde and Captain Ron’s Double IPA. $25. 6:30 p.m. 1520 Terminal St. West Sacramento. 379-7585. thebeeryogis.com
DigIn! Dinner Series
If a trip to the farmers' market leaves you wistfully imagining what a great chef might whip up with all that bounty, grab a ticket to the DigIn! Dinner Series, which has Sacramento's top chefs raiding the best of the West Sacramento Farmers Market to put on a three-course dinner right there under the big tent for 100 lucky diners. Catch the last two dinners of the series on the fourth Thursday of the month in July and August, with chef Brett Stockdale of Pangaea Bier Café on July 28 and chef Allyson Harvie of The Patriot (opening soon in the Milagro Centre in Carmichael) on Aug. 25. Stockdale's award-winning burger took him to the World Food Championships, and Harvie, a former contestant on The Next Iron Chef, is helping lead the 2016 Farm-to-Fork Festival's Tower Bridge Dinner. Both chefs will prepare dishes using farm-fresh fare from the market, and all guests will receive $5 to spend on produce. The event is sponsored by Raley's, which is headquartered just down the road. Guest hosts include West Sacramento's Mayor Christopher Cabaldon and Mayor Pro Tem Beverly Sandeen, and a portion of proceeds will go to beneficiaries like the Center for Land-Based Learning. $65. 1110 W. Capitol Ave. 371-7042. westsacramentochamber.com
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op
After breaking ground in September 2015, the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op is aiming to open doors at its new location at R and 28 streets in midtown toward the end of August. The two-story, 42,000-square-foot building neighboring Temple Coffee Roasters and Revolution Wines nearly doubles the space of the current store on Alhambra Boulevard (which has been open since 1989), with improved parking and 24 covered bicycle spaces for customers. Count on the co-op’s fresh supply of organic, local produce, but expect new additions like a burrito, sushi, and sandwich bar, along with more self-serve options and fresh pastries prepared daily at an in-house bakery. 455-2667. sacfood.coop
The Rind
This midtown cheese shop celebrates its third birthday on July 16 with a party featuring artisan cheeses, California wines and craft beer. Owner Sara Arbabian says the party will feature karaoke—with an emphasis on "cheesy" lyrics—and a “perfect bite” competition where guests can judge a selection of dishes from The Rind’s new menu. But cheese is the star of the show, and the spotlight will be on wedges and spreads from some of California’s premier dairies, including Humboldt’s Redwood Hill and Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Co., each paired with a selection of local wine and beer. $30. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. 1801 L St. Suite 40. 441-7463. therindsacramento.com
Green Fish Co & Juice
This new health food and juice bar celebrated its grand opening in midtown July 9, taking over the space formerly held by Slice of Broadway. Popular menu items include Green Fish’s build-your-own salads, wraps and rice bowls, each offered with a choice of protein including fish (natch), tri-tip, chicken and tofu, as well as a wide selection of pressed-to-order juices, like the Pink Panther, a blend of green apple, strawberry, orange and watermelon, or the Green Dream with cucumber, kale, green apple and celery. The salmon taco, decked with red cabbage slaw and pineapple pica de gallo, is also a house favorite. The restaurant’s interior features a clean, modernistic design with chalkboards touting fresh ingredients and mantras like "keep calm and eat clean." 2424 16 St. 329-8070. facebook.com/greenfishcoandjuice
