The Downtown Sacramento Partnership reveals 2018 Concerts in the Park lineup

Get ready to rock and roll all night this summer. The Downtown Sacramento Partnership just announced the lineup for its yearly free concert series that will take place Friday nights at Cesar Chavez Plaza, from May through July.
Concerts in the Park will kick off May 4 with the Sacramento-based alt-pop quintet Cemetery Sun, who is headlining the concert series for the second year in a row. They will be joined by locally based alternative rock trio Wylma and ska-reggae outfit La Noche Oskura.
Other headliners will include electronic dance music pioneers The Crystal Method (July 27), Scottish indie rock band Franz Ferdinand (May 18)—which just released its fifth album, Always Ascending, in February, and whose early aughts hit "Take Me Out" is listed on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time—and the Sacramento post-hardcore group Dance Gavin Dance (June 22), whose 2016 LP Mothership climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Other local bands taking center stage will include the reggae-rock collective Element of Soul (June 15); electronic outfit Rituals of Mine (July 13), whose recent music video submission for NPR’s Tiny Desk contest went viral; and rock twosome Middle Class Rut (July 20). Concertgoers can also groove to the tunes of visiting acts like Mystic Roots (May 11), a reggae-fusion band out of Chico; reggae rocker and Oahu native Mike Love (May 25); the five-member Americana group from North Lake Tahoe, Dead Winter Carpenters (June 1); and L.A.-based DJ Peanut Butter Wolf (June 29).
Additionally, the concert series will feature local spin masters like My Cousin Vinny, Kozee and Oshiin, and acts like alternative indie artist I Am Strikes, aka Kelly Rosenthal (May 18), jazz-funk quintet Our People (June 15), soul-blues band The Gold Souls (July 13) and Write Or Die (July 27), an experimental art pop group started by Chris Karriker (previously of Saint Solitaire) and solo artist Autumn Sky Hall, who was inducted to the Sacramento Area Music Awards hall of fame in 2014.
The 2018 lineup was announced Thursday, April 5, via an app that revealed an augmented reality video created by local graphic designer (and Sactown art director) Jason Malmberg.
