A Victorian Christmas Concert (Friday)
Celebrate the Christmas season tonight at this joint concert by Capella Antiqua, the chamber choir in residence at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, and the women’s chorus Vox Musica, who will begin the evening with a medley of classic holiday tunes. Capella Antiqua will then present Dickens’ Lessons and Carols, a work which incorporates readings from Charles Dickens’ beloved A Christmas Carol with carols from the era. It’s a Wonderful Life: The Musical (Friday through Sunday)
Have yourself a merry little Christmas with the Sacramento Theatre Company, which presents the regional debut of this musical adaptation of Frank Capra’s classic 1946 film. It’s a Wonderful Life follows the downtrodden family man George Bailey, whose urge to end his life is thwarted by a guardian angel who reveals to George what would have befallen his hometown of Bedford Falls had he never been born. $30-$40. Winter Wonderland (Friday through Sunday)
Santa Claus is coming to Fairytale Town for the final weekend of its annual Winter Wonderland celebration, during which the park will be filled with merriment and strewn with cheerful holiday decorations. Other characters like Ebenezer Scrooge and strolling Victorian carolers from the Sacramento Theatre Company’s School of the Arts will make appearances. $5. Victorian Christmas (Sunday)
It’s the most wonderful time of the year when Victorian Christmas returns to Nevada City. This year, the holiday affair marks its 36th anniversary with new additions like performances by bagpipers and unicyclists in addition to popular elements like period-attired strolling minstrels, open-air carriage rides and vendors hawking classic treats like roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.
