Enchambered Sacramento
Ongoing This escape-room experience opened on Arden Way in August and has been drawing in horror enthusiasts and puzzle fans alike with its custom-built challenges and frightening storylines. Your team of three to 12 is locked in a room and you'll have one suspense-filled hour to find clues, secret doors and hidden items to aid in your escape. Fright Planet
Oct. 7-31 This massive haunted house attraction, which bills itself as “America’s Haunted Theme Park,” will transform Cal Expo into an assortment of immersive horror experiences for one last time before relocating to a nearby farm next year to offer harvest-themed haunts. Test your phobias on “Buried Alive: The Ride,” a motion simulator set in pitch black darkness, or navigate through the foggy, tight passageways of the Gallows Motel and the Pennville Lunatic Asylum, where scares await around each corner. $19.95-$49.95. Ghost Tours at the Sacramento History Museum
Oct. 14-29 Encounter the ghosts of Old Sacramento's original inhabitants on this spooky historical tour, where you’ll learn about the lives and deaths of those who once roamed the streets. Costumed guides will lead groups on a mile-long walk, pausing at landmarks like the Eagle Theater and 49er Green, where actors will recount the early tragedies of Old Sacramento, like the deadly steamboat explosion of 1854. $10-$15. 6-9 p.m. Fri. & Sat. Haunted Fort
Oct. 28-29 Drawing from the historic tales of Gold Rush-era pioneers and settlers, Sutter’s Fort transforms into the Haunted Fort for one weekend in October. Every ten minutes, costumed tour guides will lead groups on hour-long lantern-lit tours through the fort, regaling visitors with tales of disasters and murders that took place in California, like the story of Mary Graves, a Donner party survivor who had two husbands killed. Cemetarium Haunted House
Through Oct. 31 At over 35,000 square feet, the Cemetarium in Citrus Heights is less of a haunted house and more of a haunted village. Here you can trawl through three massive attractions, including the clown-themed haunt Psycho Circus and the labyrinthine Zombie Heights, a sprawling three-part maze set in a city overrun with the undead. If traditional haunted houses are more your vibe, lose yourself in the signature Cemetarium—a five-room structure located in a grove of oak trees where you'll encounter nightmares lurking in the darkness. $6-$22. DireWorld Scare Park
Through Oct. 31 Roseville-based terror fest Callson Manor has teamed up with Heartstoppers Haunted House in Rancho Cordova to form the DireWorld Scare Park—a sprawling, zombie-Western-themed haunt in Roseville, complete with its own town square and main street. The new park features food stalls selling “deep-fried everything,” as well as six attractions, including an escape room, live performances by fire dancers, and Asylum, a steampunk-themed torture chamber. $29-$49. Ultimate Terror Scream Park
Through Nov. 5 This haunted theme park boasts three twisted haunted houses and was voted the scariest haunted house event in the West by Forbes. Stumble around in the dark while trying to avoid a menacing serial killer in the 7 Deadly Sins attraction or wander through the rooms of The Tooth Fairy, the lab of an evil dentist obsessed with removing his victim’s teeth and gums.
