Four new breweries bursting onto Sacramento’s craft beer scene

It’s been two years since Sactown dedicated an entire issue to the city’s burgeoning craft beer culture, and since then, many more breweries have staked their sudsy claims in the Sacramento region. Here are four new breweries slated to open by early 2017.
Fort Rock Brewing
Located inside Folsom Boulevard’s Nimbus Winery Village, which currently houses The Old Spaghetti Factory and Tommy T’s Comedy Club, this newcomer to the craft beer scene will specialize in pilsners, blondes and IPAs. Fort Rock co-owner Tom Fuquay says the brewery is slated to open in December and will sport an industrial look with metal accents, wood paneling and warm lighting from chandeliers made of pipes providing atmosphere. The 5,000 square-foot space features an outdoor patio, five brewing tanks and a tasting room where visitors can see the behind-the-scenes beer-making process firsthand. 12401 Folsom Blvd. Rancho Cordova. fortrockbrewing.com

Outbreak Brewing Company
This post-apocalyptic-themed brewery—with polished concrete countertops and a logo that resembles a hazard sign encircling some hops—will take over a spot on Placerville’s Main Street by February 2017. Outbreak will specialize in Belgian brews, extra hoppy West Coast-style IPAs and unique barrel-aged batches. While waiting on construction of its tasting room, Outbreak’s crew has begun brewing some beers to distribute around the area, including an 11.7 percent ABV imperial stout coined Fermu, on tap at Placerville Public House, and a tropical IPA called Sabotage available at Findleton Pub in Camino. 640 Main St. Placerville. Thin Line Brewing Company
The name of this Rancho Cordova brewpub, slated to open by the end of January, is inspired by the risks first responders take in the line of duty, specifically the friends and family of owner Cory Freeland, who has lived in the Sacramento suburb for 17 years and has a background in the coffee industry. The 3,000 square-foot space will contain a sleek, spacious taproom with dark wood tables, high-tops and a bar, and a kitchen for food service. While the brewery will hone in on craft IPAs, Freeland says it will also produce large batches of stouts, porters and red brews, along with creative small batches of more niche brews like sours. thinlinebrewing.com
Waterman Brewing Company
Jeff Stilz, who owns this upcoming Elk Grove brewery with his wife Janis, has been brewing with his dad since the ’90s and spent the last ten years developing some of Waterman’s beers, like the Robust Porter and Vanilla Cream Stout. The 10-barrel brewhouse, which will also specialize in lagers, pilsners and ales, will offer a tasting room featuring flat-screen TVs playing sporting events, along with live music, comedy and trivia nights and the occasional food truck. With a location in a major industrial area, Stilz says he is looking forward to serving craft beer to the working Elk Grove community and plans to open the brewery’s doors by the end of 2016. 9824 Dino Dr. Elk Grove. 712-3895. watermanbrewing.com
