Gift local at these 5 holiday maker markets around town

’Tis the season to be jolly while shopping local. Here are five upcoming maker markets where you can get in the spirit of gifting.
Makers Mart
Dec. 2 This popular market will pop up on Folsom Boulevard and feature over 50 Northern California artisans, most of whom hail from the Sacramento region. While you sip cranberry gin and tonics from North Sacramento artisanal soda shop Burly Beverages and local DJs Chic Fillet and Doofy Doo spin funk-infused tracks, you can browse for jewelry by Tinsel & Oak shop owner Lily Mills, botanical perfumes from Arabesque Aromas apothecary Kirsten Schilling and bespoke menswear and accessories by Samuel Rose. Free. 12 p.m.-6 p.m. 7300 Folsom Blvd. sacmakersmart.com
Midtown Bizarre at Identity Coffees
Dec. 9 Warm your insides with a matcha latte and bite into a Conscious Creamery pumpkin chai muffin as you peruse goods from eight local makers inside midtown Identity coffee shop. The Second Saturday event will feature handmade products like throw pillows made out of repurposed coffee bags. Goldfeather will showcase its curated vintage clothing and Tufarock Design will display its succulent arrangements in cast stone and driftwood vessels. Free. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Identity Coffees. 1430 28th St. 225-0738. identitycoffees.com
Holiday Shoppe
Dec. 9 This outdoor market decked out with lights will take place on Merchant Street, on the north side of the downtown ice rink at St. Rose of Lima Park and will feature carolers, a balloon artist and about a dozen makers from the Sacramento region selling handcrafted goods, including rare blends from The Novel Tea like Champagne Darjeeling and specialty olive oils from downtown Sacramento’s Chefs’ Olive Mix. The People of Sacramento shop will also be selling hometown-themed items, like baseball caps embroidered with the area code “916” and enamel pins depicting Tower Bridge. Free. noon-4 p.m. Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink. 701 K St. 442-8575. godowntownsac.com
Nevada City Craft Fair
Dec. 10 During Nevada City’s celebrated Victorian Christmas festival, Miners Foundry—itself a destination stop, with chandeliered ceilings and garland-decorated walls straight out of a Dickens novel—will be holding its biannual craft fair with giftable goods from 60 area artisans. This season’s juried selection of presents includes ceramics from Nevada City’s Pickle Pottery (whose work has been featured on Martha Stewart’s blog) and safes made from hollowed-out books by Sacramentan Jef Spencer of Refined Pallet. $3 (free for kids 12 and under). 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Miners Foundry Cultural Center. 325 Spring St. Nevada City. 530-265-5040. minersfoundry.org
Handmade Holidays
Dec. 16 For its ninth holiday event, Beatnik Studios will host over 30 local makers in its midtown space. Check out leather totes and earrings with geometric designs by Sacramento muralist Jake Castro, stamped stoneware mugs sculpted by former Crocker Art Museum resident artist Barbara Ann Chestnutt and rustic white oak stools built by contemporary designer Trent Dean. Create your own seasonal décor at a wreath-making station, and wander out to the beer garden, where Federalist Public House will be serving up brews from their beer truck and Sacramento-based band Be Brave Bold Robot will be playing indie rock. $2 (free for kids under 12). 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Beatnik Studios. 723 S St. 400-4281. beatnik-studios.com
