Ready to hop your way into the record books, Sacramento?

On Saturday, April 4—the day before Easter—kids from around the Sacramento region are invited to search for some of the 505,000 Easter eggs that will be strewn about Capitol Park and Capitol Mall in an attempt to break the 2007 Guinness world record that was set in 2007 when 9,753 children made off with 501,000 eggs at the Cypress Garden Adventure Park in Florida.

And while "The World's Largest Easter Egg Hunt" is free to all kids 12 and under (accompanied by an adult, of course), $20 VIP tickets are also available, and all proceeds from the sale of those tickets will go to support Blue Heart International, a Sacramento-based nonprofit that combats child sex trafficking and rehabilitates survivors. (The idea for the egg hunt was hatched by the organization’s co-founder Missy McCall.)

This is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Basket) event, and most of the eggs are candy-filled, but VIP ticket holders can search for eggs containing prizes like tickets to a Sacramento Kings game or a Sacramento Republic FC match, as well as gift cards to Toys "R" Us and other retailers. VIP bands also offer perks like photos with the Easter Bunny, face-painting and other activities, which are available for $5 each to non-VIP ticket holders.

If all that egg-hunting and record-breaking gets you hungry, there will be 13 food trucks at the ready, serving up nontraditional Easter treats like the chocolate bacon brownies at Bacon Mania, chicken and waffle sandwiches at Brunch Boys, and PB&J ice cream at Happy Cow.

Free ($20 for VIP tickets). April 4. Begins at 10 a.m. but times vary by age group. California State Capitol. 1315 10th St. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 671-4545 or visit blueheartinternational.org.
