The Flamingo House's decor will include tropical fabric flowers on the interior and, of course, plastic flamingos.

Midtowners will be tickled pink this summer with the arrival of a brand-new bar and social club, The Flamingo House.

Located next to the restaurant Skool on 23rd and K streets, the bar will serve up small bites paired with creative craft cocktails inside a two-story 1910 house previously occupied by the vegan restaurant Garden to Grill, which closed in December. Before that, the space was home to the Plum Cafe & Bakery and, stretching back further, the True Love Coffeehouse.

The Flamingo House is the brainchild of a trio of co-owners—Bobby Falcon, Matt Byrd and Christian Tolen—who met while working at The Park Ultra Lounge in downtown Sacramento and whose collective credits include local hotspots like Mix Downtown, Dive Bar and The Zebra Club.

“We are three guys who love midtown, and we’ve been working on this secretly for two years now,” Falcon says. The team is aiming for a June opening.

He also revealed that The Flamingo House’s menu will include "non-greasy" small plates inspired by California cuisine, with some vegetarian items to appeal to the regulars who frequented Garden to Grill. For drinks, expect a lineup of seasonal craft cocktails made to imbibe while lounging after work or on a weekend crawl through midtown.

The team is currently focused on fixing up the space to fit their concept, including painting the yellow and green exterior in shades of hot pink and outfitting the interior with funky-cool elements like abundant jungle foliage and plastic flamingos. But don't expect to feel like you're stepping into a John Waters movie when you enter.

“Nothing overly tacky,” Falcon says. “The flamingo is a symbol that represents the whole coastal leisure vibe we’re going for.”
