Wolfing down bowls of Froot Loops, Honey Nut Cheerios or Lucky Charms while watching Saturday morning cartoons may just be a happy childhood memory, but National Cereal Day on March 7 gives us good reason to relive those bygone days. We found six local spots taking sugary breakfast cereal beyond the bowl—from fried chicken coated in Frosted Flakes to a Lucky Charms cheesecake, these Trixed-out treats should bring out the kid in all of us.

Baker's Donuts

Fruity Pebbles and Cap’n Crunch Berries encrust doughnuts coated with sticky Oreo mint-, vanilla-, Thai tea- and ube-flavored glazes at Baker’s Donuts in South Sacramento, creating a veritable feast for the eyes—pebble-covered and pillowy, one of the house-made orbs even graced Sactown’s June/July Best of the City cover in 2016. 5880 Florin Rd. 916-392-8466

Creamy's by Cayla Jordan

The bite-size cheesecakes at Creamy’s by Cayla Jordan—which launched its brick-and-mortar at the Ice Blocks in November—channel breakfast cereals for the month of March. Not only are the creamy middles flecked with fragments of Lucky Charms, Cap’n Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the cereals also form the crusts on these two-bite cakes. If you can’t decide which flavor to dig into, treat yourself to a variety box of three or six. 1610 R St. caylajordan.com

Devil May Care Ice Cream & Frozen Treats

Ice cream for breakfast? Two rotating cereal-themed ice cream flavors at Devil May Care are made with milk steeped in Lucky Charms or Cap’n Crunch Berries. Garnished with the mini marshmallows and dried berries from their respective cereal boxes (yes, the crew picks out each morsel by hand), the scoops will be available at the pint-sized West Sacramento shop on March 7 (the new location on K Street is scheduled to open later this month). 322 3rd St. West Sacramento. 916-572-0456. devilmaycareicecream.com

Java Time Donuts

Head to Elk Grove’s Java Time Donuts for the shop’s Homer Simpson-worthy “big doughnut,” which can be ordered, at least a day in advance, in small, medium or large sizes (14, 17 and 20 inches in diameter, respectively). Choose your toppings for the oversize ring (the large can feed up to 45), which include a half-dozen cereal options like Cookie Crisp, Froot Loops and Trix. Forget the spoons, you’ll need a knife and fork for this “d’oh.” 7811 Laguna Blvd. Elk Grove. 916-684-9696

Odd Cookie Bakery Cafe & Bar

At downtown's newly opened Odd Cookie Bakery Cafe & Bar, cereal milk-infused cupcakes crowned with a marshmallow cereal treat—think Apple Jacks, Golden Grahams and Froot Loops—are standard daily fare. But to honor National Cereal Day, co-owner and head pastry chef Anna Rodriguez is also cooking up a Frosted Flakes-coated fried chicken sandwich (offered only March 6-7) for a breakfasty spin on a trendy lunchtime nosh. 1015 9th St. 916-228-4709. oddcookiebakery.com

The Parlor Ice Cream Puffs

Already filled with the ice cream of your choice, the signature doughnuts at The Parlor Ice Cream in Arden and Roseville can be further crammed with Reese’s Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cocoa Pebbles. Also at The Parlor’s intersection of fried dough and cereal is a churro covered in Fruity Pebbles, which can be adhered with melted marshmallow or chocolate. Use the bejeweled wand as a colorful and caloric swizzle for The Works, an outrageous three-scoop milkshake. 2620 Fair Oaks Blvd. Arden. 916-977-3997. 1490 Eureka Rd. Roseville. 916-781-7833. theparloricecream.com
