Hillenbrand Farmhaus Brewery

Cuisine: International

Essential Information

5100 Virginiatown Rd., Newcastle, CA 95658

Since opening his barn-turned-brewery in October, owner-brewer Patric Hillenbrand has been drawing throngs of thirsty patrons to his bucolic 13-acre farm in Newcastle, which is home to a tasting room with eight house beers on tap, most featuring fruits and honey from the property. Offerings include the creamy, light Blonde Haze, a pineapple IPA aptly named Juicy Fruit, and You’re Killing Me S’Mores, a dessert-like brown ale made with toasted marshmallows. This spring Hillenbrand plans to plant a new massive garden to go along with his 1-acre hop yard, and the produce from it will be put to good use when he teams up with local restaurants for beer-pairing dinners. Meanwhile, food trucks like Cousins Maine Lobster are on hand to provide less formal dining options. Open only Friday through Sunday, the brewery is our favorite new excuse to lounge in the country and drink in the rustic scenery.
