Il Fornaio
Essential Information
Planning an important business lunch? No downtown restaurant is more dressed to impress than Il Fornaio, with its gorgeous, light-suffused, lofty space in the Wells Fargo Center framed by white columns and arches, topped with rococo Italianate crown moldings. The food is traditional and authentic, with freshly baked breads and pizzas; house-made stuffed pastas like the hearty ravioli lucana (with sausage and spicy tomato sauce) and the cappellacci (with butternut squash and fried sage) are also winners. Steaks and—for something lighter—plate-sized salads round out the menu, and there are plentiful daily specials. You don’t see a lot of dessert carts these days, but Il Fornaio has one that’s hard to resist; the soffiato al cioccolato (an almond hazelnut chocolate cake served warm) is a perennial fave.
