Magpie

Cuisine: American

Essential Information

1601 16th St., Sacramento, CA 95814
916-452-7594

The second incarnation of Magpie—which relocated in 2015 from its intimate R Street nest to an expansive space at 16th and P—continues to offer the simple yet stellar farm-to-fork fare on which the cafe (owned by Ed Roehr and Janel Inouye) has built its reputation. This location features a bigger dining room and shaded patio, and the upgraded kitchen turns out inventive plates, such as the Clarksburg bean purée with locally grown mushrooms and the crispy pork belly appetizer with seasonal fruit, pickled onions and coriander-infused honey. The bar shakes things up too, with original cocktails like the Port of Rye with rye whiskey, tawny port wine, house-made fennel pollen syrup and lemon juice. And don’t miss the luscious ice cream sandwiches filled with Gunther’s vanilla ice cream.
