Diavolo (Friday and Saturday)
This L.A.-based troupe, whose artistic director Jacques Heim has choreographed shows for the likes of Cirque du Soleil, will present two pieces from its vast, high-flying repertoire: Transit Space, a work inspired by skateboarding and featuring set pieces like ramps, and Trajectoire, in which the dancers balance on, slide across and launch off a giant seesaw-like structure. $25-$55. Jonathan Batiste (Friday and Saturday)
New Orleans native Jonathan Batiste and his band Stay Human—who blend jazz with other genres like pop and funk and have played everywhere from street parades to New York City subways, all in an effort to make jazz accessible—will present a string of intimate, improvisational shows at the Mondavi Center. The program will include selections from the band’s new album Social Music, which JazzTimes aptly reviewed as “eclectic and user-friendly.” Tickets start at $42. Joshua Bell (Saturday)
The Grammy-winning violinist will take the Mondavi Center stage with Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, a prominent British chamber orchestra for which Bell has served as music director since 2011. Together, they will perform a concert that includes the jubilant overture from Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro and Beethoven’s majestic Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op.55, aka “Eroica.” Tickets start at $150. Camellia Symphony Orchestra’s Family Concert (Sunday)
The last of Camellia Symphony Orchestra’s free family concerts this season will showcase works by Strauss and Stravinsky, with introductions by Camellia’s maestro Christian Baldini. An hour beforehand, Sacramento arts nonprofit I Can Do That will man stations for making hands-on crafts like rhumba shakers, while several of the symphony’s musicians will set up a “petting zoo” for little ones to try out their various instruments.
